My Chemical Romance fans, mark your calendars for September 23rd. But don’t get too excited.

Update: Sorry everyone. MCR says there won’t be a new album or tour — just something to commemorate the 10th anniversary of The Black Parade:

MCR, you should know better than to get us excited like that. We’ve all missed you and want you back.

Original story: On Wednesday My Chemical Romance posted a cryptic tweet with a video of the band’s name and a “X” on a flag. Underneath the video plays the unforgettable notes of “Welcome To The Black Parade.” At the end, a date: September 23.

So what the hell is going on here? This is the first tweet the band has sent out in well over a year, making the sudden tease very exciting. The flag gives you a clue about the forthcoming announcement: The “X” is likely the Roman numeral 10, signifying the 10th anniversary of The Black Parade which debuted October 23rd, 2006.

This video could certainly be teasing anything, including a new My Chemical Romance album, a new song, or a new tour. Since their last album was a Greatest Hits compilation, we have to think that the forthcoming announcement won’t be something like May Death Never Stop You.

Perhaps they’ll announce a reunion tour to mark 10 years since The Black Parade.

They said of their breakup in 2013, “Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We’ve gotten to go places we never knew we would. We’ve been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We’ve shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure.”

What do you think MCR is teasing us with?

Hopefully we’ll receive another tease or two in the next few weeks. September 23 is a long ways away.
