MTV has released a first look at the characters from their television remake of Scream.

A little under a year ago, MTV announced they would be investing in a television adaptation of the popular horror franchise Scream. Until now, few details about the series have been revealed; this week however, we get our first look at the characters set to hit our small screens.

The main characters of the series include:

Harper Duval. Described as a 16 year old “beauty who’s a little too introverted and intellectual to be a social butterfly.” But apparently that doesn’t stop her from being drawn into the popular crowd, where TV Line says she starts to “feel guilty that she has drifted away from former best friend Audrey.” The saving grace for Harper though is her apparent “Gilmore Girls-esque relationship” with her mother which helps keep her grounded.

Said ex-best friend Audrey Jesen is “the bi-curious daughter of a Lutheran pastor.” This controversial relationship dynamic should be an interesting relationship to watch play out from week to week. Furthermore she’s described as being “more arresting-looking than pretty,” and is an “artsy loner who dreams of being a filmmaker.”

Next up is Noah Foster. Audrey’s best friend who is “creative, brilliant and tech-savvy enough to be the next Steve Jobs.” The next descriptor defines him as being something similar to “John Cusack in his teens.” For our younger readers, it might be better to compare him to someone like Miles Teller. An unconventional leading man who’s as charming as he is silly. Lastly, Noah is said to possess “an encyclopedic knowledge of books, films, TV, apps, etc.” It is easy to assume that this character could potentially have a rather large role if his intelligence drives information within the show.

The final character released is Margaret “Maggie” Duval. Harper’s mother and the local medical examiner. This 40-something mom is said to be “a grown-up science geek who plays down her beauty.” Apparently she works hard to supplement the loss of Harper’s father who abandoned their family some time ago. But more intriguingly she’s said to be hiding “a dark secret from her past.” You can’t have a TV horror remake without some nasty baggage to come back and haunt everyone.

Producers at MTV seem ready to recreate the success of their television adaptation of Teen Wolf. The werewolf centered remake may have boosted moral and reaffirmed the networks ability to deliver quality scripted drama.

It’s impossible to know if Scream will be able to generate the same kind of interest and passion that much of the Teen Wolf audience contains. But the above casting information looks intriguing and there is definite promise within many of these ideas.
