MTV has officially announced the cancellation of its freshman drama Eye Candy.

For fans following the show, the news won’t come as much of a shock. Eye Candy had been struggling to pull significant ratings since its premier and never seemed to find its footing throughout the season. Unfortunately, it seems as though its goal of bringing in a slightly older audience didn’t gel with the network’s younger demo.

Victoria Justice took to Twitter and Facebook to announce the sad news.

Hi everyone! I wanted you guys to hear it from me first, that the cast and I received news that Eye Candy will not be returning for season 2. Even though a lot of you are going to feel sad/angry, please know that playing Lindy Sampson, is something that I loved and I will hold dear to my heart. I couldn’t have asked for better cast mates to work with either. They are the most down to earth, talented and kind souls that I am so happy to have met. Then there’s our show runner @Christiantwit1 who is so awesomely talented and made a show that I am so incredibly proud to be a part of. A very special thank you to Jason Blum and the Blumhouse team, you guys are amazing! Jessica, thanks for all your hard work and dedication to Eye Candy.

Last but definitely not at all least, thank you to the amazing fans. I saw all of your WW trends (it might be 23 or 24 to date) and your unflinching support. It’s because of all of you that I get to do what I love. I am beyond grateful for that. It made me so happy that you embraced the show the way you did. I was so lucky to have you guys along for the ride, because you made it that much more exciting!

As for @Caseydiedrick, @HarveyGuillen, @Kierseyclemons, @fryryCooper & @JohnGaret, I love you all and I’m so excited to see what great things you guys will be doing next. Let’s all grab dinner next week and celebrate a show that we all loved and were so proud to make.

Love to you all,
Vic

In the recent years of MTV’s reformatting, they’ve been making a strong push to incorporate more scripted drama into their programming. However, it seems as though they have yet to find a magic formula that works for the network all around. For every success, like Teen Wolf, Finding Carter, and Faking It, they have an equally unsuccessful show, such as Skins, Happyland, and now Eye Candy.

But with little risk there’s little reward and it looks like MTV has fully acknowledged that fact. Next Tuesday the network will be heading to the Beacon Theatre in New York City to take part in their annual upfront presentations — where they’re expected to make a big push for their newest drama Scream: The TV Show.

The program seems to be exactly what it says on the tin: A Scream franchise reboot grown and developed for network TV. They also have another adaptation set to premiere sometime during the 2015-2016 schedule that will likely be announced during upfronts. Shannara, the network’s first attempt at a fantasy drama.

So it doesn’t look like MTV is ready to pull out of the scripted drama game quite yet. In fact, some may say they’re doubling down.

We here at Hypable would like to wish the entire Eye Candy cast and crew the best of luck on all their future projects. We know we’ll see a bunch of amazing stuff from the lot of you!
