Beloved Robin Williams classic Mrs. Doubtfire is officially heading to the stage!

Mrs. Doubtfire is gearing up to follow in the footsteps of School of Rock, Mean Girls, and Clueless.

The iconic 1993 family comedy which starred Robin Williams as a recently divorced father who disguises himself as an elderly British nanny in order to bamboozle his ex-wife into letting him spend more time with his kids is officially being adapted for the stage.

The upcoming musical already has some pretty big names working on the adaptation behind the scenes, too.

According to Playbill, Something Rotten! co-creators John O’Farrell, Karey Kirkpatrick, and Wayne Kirkpatrick are all on board to write the new musical. O’Farrell and Karen Kirkpatrick will be working on the book. Meanwhile Wayne Kirkpatrick will be working on music and lyrics.

In addition Jerry Zaks has been tapped to direct. Zaks is a four-time Tony winner who recently helmed the Tony Award-winning reveal of Hello, Dolly!, so it’s safe to say the stage iteration of Mrs. Doubtfire is in pretty good hands.

In a statement announcing the upcoming musical, Fox Stage Productions producers Kevin McCollum and Bob Cohen said, “Mrs. Doubtfire is such a beloved story, both laugh-out-loud hilarious and extremely moving. Getting this team together and crafting Mrs. Doubtfire for the stage has been pure joy. We can’t wait to get into production.”

Speaking of production, it sounds as though theater lovers will have to wait just a bit longer to find out when they can expect the production to make its grand debut.

Announcements regarding casting, additional creative team members, and production schedule are expected to be announced at a later date.
