USA Network has renewed Mr. Robot for a third season, to premiere in 2017.

The channel’s surprise summer hit of 2015 will return for a third season. Despite the show’s lower ratings and more lukewarm critical response in its second season, USA has decided to stick with the Emmy nominated series and commit to more episodes of the show through next year.

In a statement, NBC Universal President Chris McCumber made clear that the network still has high hopes for Mr. Robot and the future hacking endeavors of Elliot and fsociety:

“We couldn’t be more proud of Mr. Robot, a series that has pushed boundaries, captured the cultural zeitgeist, and been honored as one of the best dramas on television. Midway through its second season, Mr. Robot continues to break new ground and open up new opportunities for the network. We can’t wait to see where Sam Esmail and the entire brilliant Robot team take us next.”

The show’s creator Sam Esmail has previously stated that his plan for the series is limited to a maximum of four to five seasons. Today’s renewal brings Esmail’s vision one step closer to becoming reality.

Mr. Robot is currently halfway through airing its second season in USA network.
