Dreamworks has released the first trailer for their upcoming animated comedy adventure Mr. Peabody and Sherman, and Ty Burrell voices the iconic dog.

Based on the “Peabody’s Improbable History” segments of the 1960s TV series The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, Mr. Peabody and Sherman tells the story of a dog who adopts Sherman and tries his best at being a good parent. Max Charles voices young Sherman.

Mr. Peabody has a secret Wabac machine that lets him travel back in time, and when Sherman puts it to use to impress a girl in his class named Penny (Ariel Winter) he starts messing with history.

Hypable had the chance to see extended footage from the movie at an event in Los Angeles last week where Ty Burrell was on hand to speak about the role. Scenes like their trip to Egypt and the mission to get Mona Lisa to smile were two particular highlights thanks to the film’s interest in putting a fun spin on history.

The synopsis for the film reads, “Mr. Peabody, the most accomplished dog in the world, and his mischievous boy Sherman, use their time machine – The Wabac – to go on the most outrageous adventures known to man or dog. But when Sherman takes The Wabac out for a joyride to impress his friend Penny, they accidently rip a hole in the universe, wreaking havoc on the most important events in world history. Before they forever alter the past, present and future, Mr. Peabody must come to their rescue, ultimately facing the most daunting challenge of any era: figuring out how to be a parent. Together, the time traveling trio will make their mark on history.”

Mr. Peabody and Sherman hits theaters March 7, 2014. Will you see it next year?
