What If might be the modern day When Harry Met Sally, but that isn’t the only film this new rom-com reminds us of.

What If stars Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan in a new type of romantic comedy. Radcliffe plays Wallace, who meets Kazan’s Chantry at a party and falls for her – only to discover that she has a boyfriend. They decide to be friends, and to try and navigate the so-called “friend zone.”

The reintroduction of this When Harry Met Sally dynamic has reminded us just how much we love the friends-to-lovers trope that features in so many of our favourite films. This trope manifests in various ways, from a strict progression from friends to lovers, and in more recent films, as a friends with benefits situation. The ten films below are some of our favourite examples of this scenario. Tell us in the comments what your favourite friends-to-lovers film is.
