MoviePass is once again making a major push for new customers by dropping the price to $6.95/month.

The subscription service lets you see one movie a day in your local theaters for one very low flat rate. We at Hypable are proud MoviePass customers and love paying such a low price to see up to 30 movies a month in the theater!

There’s one little catch for the $6.95/month deal: You must commit to a year in advance, meaning you have to cough up about $85 now, and this offer is only available for a limited time. If you don’t want to pay that much in one go, you can still sign up for the regular $9.99/month plan (which lets you cancel at any time).

MoviePass still pays the theaters their usual ticket price, so you don’t have to worry about undercutting your faves. While many theaters (most notably AMC) are very weary of MoviePass, there are no shortage of theaters across the United States that support it. How does MoviePass work? Once you’re signed up and receive your card in the mail, you head to the theater, load up the app, and “check in” to a movie. Once checked in, you head to the box office and pay for the ticket with your MoviePass card. There really aren’t any catches other than the persistent thought that this glorious deal might not last forever.

MoviePass has been teaming up with theaters and studios to stay afloat, and the company argues that it’s good for the movie industry because it gets more people into theaters. More people at the theater means more money spent on concessions, which is where the theaters make their money.

Studios worry that customers will grow too accustomed to these rock-bottom prices, and if MoviePass ever goes away, MoviePass customers will resist returning to the $10+ ticket prices that are standard these days.
