The Mortal Instruments television series has found its first cast member: Dominic Sherwood will play Jace!

ABC Family’s upcoming television series based on Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments has cast a The Vampire Academy alum in the lead role. Outside of his recent vampire film you may recognize the actor from Taylor Swift’s recent “Style” music video and the 2012 film Not Fade Away.

The character of Jace was played by Jamie Campbell-Bower in the film version.

Tweeted Dominic this morning:

The director and executive producer of The Mortal Instruments TV series pilot, McG, chimed in with this tidbit revealing why Sherwood was cast:

Clare also described his audition as “terrific.”

As described by ABC Family in a press release, Jace is a narcissistic and lethally gorgeous character who is “a skilled soldier in a war against demons. After his father is killed, Jace makes it his life mission to seek revenge on the man who is responsible.”

Said Clare last month about the television adaptation, “I’m excited to see ABC Family bring the world of the Shadowhunters to life. As a huge fan of long-form television drama, I can’t wait to see the story unfold and for the fans to have more time with the world and the characters.”

The Mortal Instruments television series begins filming soon. A premiere date hasn’t been set by ABC Family.

Now the question is…

Who should play Clary in ‘The Mortal Instruments’ TV series?

It’s important that Sherwood holds great chemistry with the actress who plays Clary, as the two may potentially be working together for a long time. Unlike the now-defunct Mortal Instruments movie franchise, there will be lots of time for the characters of Clary and Jace to be developed on television.
