Homeland star Morena Baccarin has been cast as the female lead in Deadpool, Fox’s mutant movie which has Ryan Reynolds starring as the lead character.

Despite casting Gina Carano in the film recently, Fox has now cast actress Morena Baccarin to co-star with Ryan Reynolds in their Deadpool adaptation. It was thought that Carano would be the lead, but it looks like the Homeland actress has finalized her deal as Ryan Reynolds’ co-star.

It’s unclear who she’ll be playing at this time, but THR reports that her deal is done, and it has the studio on track to start production in March, where they’ll be shooting in Vancouver. Baccarin was most recently seen as Jim Gordon’s love interest in Gotham.

Tim Miller will be directing Deadpool, with Ryan Reynolds set to reprise his role as the film’s hilarious and deadly mutant. Reynolds played the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and while that film wasn’t well-received, the leaked footage of Deadpool caused the studio to start looking at the project again.

With the story reportedly going back to the beginning, it’s unclear what specific abilities Deadpool will have, but we’re glad to see that the film has grabbed such a talented actress.

The previous report also revealed that actor T.J. Miller will have a supporting role in the film, and bring comic relief, although we can’t imagine this film will need much of that with the lead character being known as a “merc with a mouth.”

Deadpool hits theaters February 12, 2016.
