Pixar has unveiled a Monsters University short film titled “Party Central” which will run in front of the upcoming Disney movie Muppets Most Wanted.

The Monsters University short film first debuted at Disney’s D23 Expo this past summer, and Entertainment Weekly describes it as such: “Mike and Sulley and their Oozma Kappa frat brothers try to throw a monster blowout party but are dismayed to find that no one is showing up. Fortunately, they have some extra inter-dimensional doors handy, which they put to creative use (we won’t spoil how here) to get the party rocking.”

“Party Central” writer and director Kelsey Mann told EW how they came up with the idea. “When you first meet the Oozma Kappas [in Monsters University], they go to their fraternity house and the first thing they say is, ‘Welcome to party central! We haven’t thrown a party yet, but when we do we’ll be ready.’”

It was from that line in the movie that “Party Central” was born. “I kept telling [University director] Dan [Scanlon], ‘I really want to see their party. We have to do it in the credits or something.’ Then when the idea of doing a short came up, we were like, ‘That could be the party.'”

Including the monsters with the Muppets this March is a great match given their similar looks. Disney and Pixar traditionally include short films in front of most of their movies in theaters.

In related news, Disney released a new 30-second spot for Muppets Most Wanted today which has fun with tweets from those who’ve checked out the trailer for the movie. A couple of new shots from the film are included.

Thanks, EW.
