The Monopoly board game is the first Hasbro property to be adapted into a Broadway musical — and it won’t be the last.

Look for Monopoly: The Musical to split your family for good (probably as you argue about whether this is the best idea in the world, or the worst).

Deadline reports that Hasbro has entered into a partnership with Broadway producer The Araca Group, with the aim to bring popular game franchises to the stage.

Hasbro general manager Simon Waters says in a statement:

“Monopoly is one of the most iconic gaming brands of all time. Hasbro is dedicated to delivering new and exciting ways for consumers to interact with all of our brands, and this stage adaptation will do just that — offering fans a unique and immersive experience for people of all ages. We are excited to work with The Araca Group to bring Monopoly to life on Broadway and across the country.”

This certainly is a unique idea — we were already scratching our heads at the announced Monopoly movie, but evidently that was only the beginning!

We wonder if this will feature some sort of original, Jumanji-esque story, or if Monopoly: The Musical will go one step further and encourage the audience to participate in an actual game experience.

And what board games will be adapted next? Ludo? The Game of Life? Clue? (Actually that’s not a bad idea. Someone pitch that one, quick!)
