The family comes together for a family portrait while some secrets keep them apart tonight on Modern Family season 5, episode 21, “Sleeper.”
On the last episode of ‘Modern Family’:
The family took a trip to Australia together to visit the land where Phil was conceived as part of his mother’s final wishes. Unfortunately, the trip didn’t start out the way Phil envisioned. Instead of spending time together everyone kept breaking off.
Cam and Mitch caught up with an old friend named Ferguson who turned out to be a celebrity. Although they found him annoying, the perks of having a celebrity friend were too tempting. The couple learned their lesson when they ended up spending an afternoon on a small boat instead of a yacht like he promised.
Claire and Jay started out enjoying the trip. But when they found out their bid for a new project had been beat they couldn’t stop working. When Gloria scolded them about it, they even took to lying about what they were doing.
The kids each had their own agenda on the trip. Haley was busy scoping out guys, Lily wanted the perfect souvenir, and Alex was consumed with working on her college entrance essay. Meanwhile, Luke and Manny were distracted by the opportunities at nudest beaches.
Phil also put up with being attacked by mother nature throughout the trip. Including getting stung by a jellyfish and attacked by a kangaroo. But after getting told that Australia is only unkind to its own people he feels better about the trip. Things start to look up when the family realizes they need to spend time together and join in on the plans Phil made for them.

“Phil fails at his one task to stay home and wait for the repairman, forcing him to tell an elaborate lie to hide the truth from Claire, but the stress is more than he can physically handle. Meanwhile, Gloria is obsessing over the family portrait she is responsible for organizing this year. Claire accuses Cam of being too snobby to use her girls’ hand-me-downs and Jay secretly enters Stella in a dog show, on “Modern Family,” WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30 (9:00-9:31 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.”
