On the last episode of Modern Family, Cam and Mitch received a homemade cake topper from Cam’s father. Mitch pretended to like it but plotted to destroy it. Jay stepped in to help and gave it to his dog Stella. Too bad for Mitch that Cam dug it up in the yard. But after the truth about Mitch’s feelings came out, Cam agreed that they should each have another veto. Mitch used his on the topper while Cam automatically vetoed the wedding singer, whom he’d secretly hated.
Phil tried to help Gloria sell the apartment she had lived in before marrying Jay. But when she turned away one buyer because she didn’t like him and then canceled on another showing, Phil quickly realized something was up. After spending the day working together at her old salon job, Phil got the truth out of her: Gloria wasn’t ready to sell the apartment because she felt like it was the last piece of the old her.
Claire got upset at her father when he failed to acknowledge all of the great work at the company. This led them to have a food fight while making dinner because they couldn’t agree on which recipe to use – the old one or the new one. Later, Claire realized that Jay was worried about people thinking he’s too old to be the boss. Finally understanding why he didn’t congratulate her success at work, she told Jay that she’s glad he’s there for her to lean on at work.

“The entire family tags along as Phil fulfills his mom’s wish for him to return to his roots and visit the country where he was conceived, Australia.
