Although Private Practice was just given the boot by ABC, the network has ordered additional episodes of Modern Family, Grey’s Anatomy, and Castle.

The lucky shows that have been asked to provide more episodes are The Middle. Castle will have one episode added while the other shows will have two. This is consistent with their previous seasons, although Castle has at times had 24 episodes, not this season’s 23.

ABC’s other new shows, Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue have also received good news, getting told to produce two more additional scripts. An interesting step by ABC, as Last Resort may have increased in viewership by 6% since their previous episode, but 666 Park Avenue noticeably decreased to under the 5 million viewer mark. Following the trend, Fox has similarly ordered two more episodes for Mindy Kaling’s new tv show, The Mindy Project.

Grey’s Anatomy’s creator, Shonda Rhimes, had to announce to fans of the spin off show that Private Practice would sadly be ending mid season on episode 13. After a total of 111 episodes and 6 seasons, ABC has decided to axe the show, with Rhimes citing budgetary problems as one of the reasons.

Are you happy about the confirmed new episodes? Do you wish one of the shows listed could replace Private Practice instead? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Thanks, Deadline.
