In the early hours of Wednesday (at 3:45 a.m. eastern, to be exact), the first Hunger Games: Mockingjay teaser trailer was released online.

The Mockingjay teaser trailer was unveiled on TheCapitol.pn and features President Snow (played by Donald Sutherland) addressing the citizens of Panem. Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) eerily stands by his side.

“Since the dark days, our great nation has known only peace. Ours is an elegant system conceived to nourish and protect,” Snow says to his people. “Your districts are the body. The Capitol is the beating heart. Your hard work feeds us, and in return we feed and protect you. If you resist assisting, or starve yourself, if you fight against it, it is you who will bleed. I know you’ll stand with me – with us – with all of us. Together as one.”

“Panem today, Panem tomorrow, Panem forever,” Snow concludes with. Peeta looks towards the camera at the very end.

The trailer includes no official marketing for Mockingjay. Instead, we’re watching Snow address the nation as if we’re citizens of Panem. Brilliant.

Interestingly, the YouTube thumbnail for the official video is of President Snow with pure white skin. He almost looks like a statue. Click to see it full size!

What do you think of this first ‘Mockingjay’ trailer?

While it’s not a trailer in the traditional sense, it’s certainly our first major piece of marketing material geared toward the opening of the movie. So, that’s why we’re describing it as a teaser. We still expect a traditional trailer with footage from the film to be unveiled very soon. On the latest episode of Hype, we speculated it’ll arrive at San Diego Comic-Con next month.

Mockingjay, Part 1 opens in theaters this November starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Donald Sutherland, Elizabeth Banks, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
