Lorde spoke over the weekend about last week’s announcement that she’s been put in charge of the Mockingjay soundtrack.

Speaking to Billboard to promote her appearance at Chicago’s Lollapalooza 2014, the Pure Heroine artist said that the group of musicians she’s assembled for the third Hunger Games soundtrack is “super” surprising. “You’ll be like, what? I haven’t heard from them in ages… but in a great way,” she said.

Lorde is a big fan of The Hunger Games series and was happy to analyze the story with Billboard. “Jennifer (Lawrence) perfectly embodies Katniss Everdeen and you can’t not be interested in that character. She’s so smart and so tough and so brave, but she’s also like, I’m really confused and I don’t know which guy I want to date but like … hold on dude. There’s more important things to do than think about dating. I’ve got to save the world right now. It’s very fresh and modern which I like, but it’s also super youth based. It’s a good set of films.”

Elsewhere in her interview, Lorde said the Mockingjay opportunity came about when Lionsgate asked if she wanted to write the end credits song. She responded by asking the studio if she could organize the whole soundtrack for them. “I was really keen to curate it. I had this idea that it would be really cool and I think I know what is the right sound for the project. So they were really into it and it just started happening. It’s really been my baby, which is awesome.”

Since she was initially offered the end credits song, our guess is that her original Mockingjay tune will still play right as the film concludes. You may remember that Coldplay’s “Atlas” was the end credits song for Catching Fire.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 opens in theaters this November. The first trailer debuted a week ago today.
