We all know Katniss, Peeta and Gale, but who are all these other people in the Mockingjay, Part 1 character posters?
Okay, not all of the new Mockingjay, Part 1 characters have their own poster. But can you remember the name of every member of Katniss’ film crew or of Squad 451 without checking your book? Our Mockingjay, Part 1 character guide has everything you need to know. Minor spoilers ahead.
District 13:
President Alma Coin (Julianne Moore)
President Coin is the leader of District 13 and the head of the rebellion against the Capitol. She had Katniss rescued from the arena in Catching Fire, but that doesn’t mean she and Katniss see eye-to-eye. As demonstrated in the clip where Katniss returns to District 12, Coin doesn’t even believe Katniss can do what is necessary for the rebellion; she thinks the Mockingjay is too damaged from her many visits to the arena.
Boggs (Mahershala Ali)
Boggs is Coin’s right hand man, and becomes responsible for looking after Katniss when she journeys into the districts to raise morale among the rebels. After several missions to various districts, Boggs becomes commander of Squad 451, or the Star Squad.
Film crew:
Cressida (Natalie Dormer)
Cressida is a director who flees from the Capitol to join District 13 with her team. She is responsible for filming the propaganda shots, or propos, that District 13 uses to rally the other districts by showing Katniss fighting back again the Capitol. These propos are supposed to be filmed in safe, controlled situations, but Cressida and her team show their commitment to the cause by risking their lives to obtain real footage of Katniss fighting back.
Messalla (Evan Ross)
Messalla is Cressida’s assistant, who followed her from the Capitol to aid the rebels in District 13.
Castor (Wes Chatham)
Castor is one of Cressida’s cameramen, and brother to Pollux. According to the books, five years after his brother was turned into an Avox and forced to work for the Capitol, Castor was able to purchase his brother’s freedom.
Pollux (Elden Henson)
Pollux is a cameraman from the Capitol. Unlike his brother Castor, Pollux has had his tongue cut out by the Capitol, turning him into an Avox. Avox-like characters are present in The Hunger Games and Catching Fire films, but have not been discussed in detail as of yet, a decision which has disappointed many fans. Maybe Pollux will provide the opportunity to finally explain this plot point for the movie audience.
The Districts:
Commander Paylor (Patina Miller)
Paylor is the Commander of the rebels in District 8. Katniss and Paylor meet when Katniss travels to District 8 to film a propo at the hospital there, but ends up in an air assault by the Capitol. She is suspicious of Katniss when she first arrives, but waits to see how she acts before casting a final judgement.
