You may’ve been surprised last week when Lionsgate announced the release dates for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2. Now we’re starting to understand why: The studio is seeking directors for the final two parts.

Due to the pace at which they want to move with the creation of these films, Lionsgate won’t be selecting Francis Lawrence for either of the final two. They need a director to prep before Lawrence will be finished with Catching Fire.

Indiewire reports that Lionsgate and Summit chiefs as well as producer Nina Jacobson and author Suzanne Collins are actively searching for other directors. At this point we’re assuming that both parts of Mockingjay will be filmed back to back, as they are following the Twilight shooting schedule which took that path.

Do you have any picks for Mockingjay Part 1, Part 2, or both?

The films will be released November 2014 and 2015 respectively.
