After the huge success of Mission: Impossible Fallout, it was announced that two new flicks are headed to the franchise.

Mission: Impossible Fallout has been the biggest success for the Mission: Impossible franchise, grossing $790 million worldwide. And that’s a huge achievement, especially considering the fact that the first film came out in 1998. So it’s no surprise that Paramount was quick to bring us more adventures with Ethan Hunt and his group of international spies from IMF.

Tom Cruise, Ethan Hunt himself, announced on Twitter that we can expect to see him in two more Mission: Impossible films. And what’s even more fun, Variety reports that the movies are being filmed back-to-back, so we’ll be getting new films in summer of 2021 and the summer of 2022.

Of course, snagging Tom Cruise for two more movies was only half the battle for Paramount. Part of what made Fallout so successful was the crack writer/director Christopher McQuarrie. Happily, McQuarrie has signed on for both films, which he confirmed on Twitter.

In past installments of the franchise, the writer and director have changed with each new Mission: Impossible movie. However, after such a huge success at the box office and a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the best rating in the franchise thus far, it seems that Paramount is ready to settle on McQuarrie as the writer and director for the franchise.

No word yet on which of the other members of Ethan Hunt’s IMF gang like Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, or Rebecca Ferguson we can expect to see in the new Mission: Impossible movies. However, if past films are any indication, we can expect just about everyone to return for more adventures with the IMF.

Stay tuned here to keep up to date with the new Mission: Impossible movies.
