Hayley Atwell will star opposite Tom Cruise in the next Mission: Impossible film.
Update: 1/10/2020 Nicholas Hoult will be teaming up with Hayley Atwell and Tom Cruise in the new Mission: Impossible movie, and Hoult is potentially slated to play a villain.
Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 director Christopher McQuarrie made the announcement on his Instagram, tagging Hoult and asking if he wanted to “raise a little hell.”
Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 are set to shoot back-to-back, and we don’t have a great deal of information on the plot or specifics around Hoult’s role (apart from Variety’s report that he is expected to play a villain).
However, this isn’t Hoult’s first run at working alongside Tom Cruise. He got very far in auditions to play Goose’s son in Top Gun: Maverick. Though Hoult didn’t snag that role, it did pave the way for him to work with the veteran actor in the Mission: Impossible franchise.
The cast for the next Mission: Impossible movies are shaping up quite nicely, and we can’t wait to see what this amazing cast brings us in the next two movies.

Some people just can’t leave the spy life behind, and it looks like Hayley Atwell is one of them! In 2021, she’ll be shedding her Agent Carter role and stepping into a new agent’s shoes to star alongside Tom Cruise in the seventh installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise.

The news broke in the cutest way possible on Friday night, with the film’s director, Christopher McQuarrie, posting a headshot of Hayley Atwell on top of an IMF (Impossible Mission Force) folder on Instagram. He tagged her in the caption, saying, “should you choose to accept…”
Atwell gladly accepted the “mission” by sharing a series of nine photos depicting the same image, all with the caption, “Mission: Accepted. Though I’m not the sort to follow orders…”
Tom Cruise also got involved in the welcome, sharing the message below to his Instagram story!
The seventh Mission: Impossible movie, starring Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell, is set to premiere on July 23, 2021.
