Paramount Pictures has announced the exact release dates of the next two Mission: Impossible installments.

Tom Cruise will reprise his role as Ethan Hunt when Mission: Impossible returns for at least two more outings in 2021 and 2022. Rogue Nation and Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie will also make his return to the franchise to oversee the next two movies. There’s no word yet on which of Cruise’s castmates will also reprise their roles.

The as-yet-unnamed seventh movie in the Mission: Impossible franchise will hit theaters on July 23, 2021. The eighth installment will follow in 2022, on August 5.

Under McQuarrie, Rogue Nation grossed $682 million at the worldwide box office, while 2018’s Fallout made $791 million. It’s little surprise that both movies were commercial, as well as critical, successes. Fallout especially was a skillfully directed big-budget action movie, and had a tightly plotted, edge-of-your-seat thriller of a story to match it. (Hypable’s movie reviewer, Aaron Locke, thought it was good enough to deserve a Best Picture nomination at the 2019 Academy Awards.)

But don’t just take Locke’s word for how exceptional an entry Fallout was to the franchise.

In August 2018, fans of Mission: Impossible scaled Pulpit Rock — a location used during the filming of Fallout — for a screening. With that kind of dedication inspired by McQuarrie’s last two entries to the series, we’ll be excited to see what he, and the cast, come up with next.
