Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children now has an official first trailer, and it looks fantastic!

The trailer debuted on Tuesday morning on Good Morning America, giving fans their first solid look at the upcoming movie.

Alongside Asa Butterfield, the film stars Eva Green, Chris O’Dowd, Ella Purnell, Allison Janney, Rupert Everett, Terence Stamp, Judi Dench, and Samuel L. Jackson.

We get a great introduction to the Peculiars in this trailer, as well as Miss Peregrine. The special effects look incredible already, and I for one can’t wait to see everyone in action. That group shot near the end with the children lined up to defend their home would definitely make me think twice about attacking these kids.

The reveal of Sam Jackson as Barron was particularly disconcerting, and he looks to be a fantastic addition to the cast. The bright skies and happy children are in stark contrast to his chilling blue eyes and the monster’s gaping mouth at the end of the trailer.

The one concerning factor about this adaptation seems to be that one of the character’s powers has been switched out for another’s. Emma’s peculiarity, in the books, was that she was able to create fire with her hands. In the trailer, it appears she’s been given the peculiarity of another of the children, Olive, who was lighter than air. Olive will also be in the film, so it should be interesting to see what they do with her character.

This first Miss Peregrine’s trailer gives us a great look at the overall tone of the film, which is surprisingly bright and colorful despite the sometimes dark and frightening themes we see. Seeing his take on the story will be a fun journey though this adaptation of Ransom Riggs’ book. And we’re not the only ones who are excited!

The synopsis for the movie reads, “When a teen (Butterfield) visits a magical place known as Miss Peregrine’s School for Peculiar Children, he learns that his new friends have special powers and powerful enemies.” You can see images from the film as well as a new poster below.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will hit cinemas on September 30, 2016.
