So Hulu didn’t upload the first episode for the new season of Misfits last night… major fail.  So I ummm, found other legal means of watching my third favorite British show (The first being Doctor Who and second being Sherlock).

If you haven’t watched the episode, here’s your dull quick spoiler free recap.

We find out everyone’s superpowers (scraping the barrel a bit but that’s to be expected) and we meet the new character Rudy who also has a superpower of his own.  Also there’s a blonde chick with weird slanted bangs that doesn’t tolerate guys who are nice one moment and complete arseholes the next.  And the probation worker is still his awesome douchey self.

Now stop reading and go scrounge the internet for the episode.

CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS

It was all he had left.

So first things first: everyone’s powers.  Kelly is now a rocket scientist (Listening to her explain propulsion and liquid nitrogen in her accent is HIGHlarious).  Alisha has the power of POV (reminds me of a certain gun from Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy).  Curtis can turn himself into a woman (ummm…. ok).  And Simon has the ability to… see the future before it happens?  I guess that explains how Future Simon could predict the events in season two, but it doesn’t explain how the future him was able to touch Alisha when she had her powers of sex.  I’m interested in how the writer’s will explain that.

Moving on to this guy:

Now you see me.  Now you see two of me.

And then there’s newbie Rudy, played by actor Joe Gilgun, who possess the power of self-loathing… squared.  The manifestation of his insecurity and lack of personal worth splits himself into two real life personalities.  There’s what I call Assman Rudy who is sex-crazed, indecent, and vulgar (just like our favorite Irish blowback), and then there’s Insecure Rudy who means well to his fellow human beings, is more insecure than a thirteen year old girl, and a little gay confused.  It’s interesting to watch his duality on screen, and I must say, mad props to Joe for conquering both versions of Rudy flawlessly.  But I like Insecure Rudy better, not because he’s a better person, but because Assman Rudy is too much like Nathan.  You can tell the writers haven’t quite let go of Nathan’s character and have basically given all his offensive dialogue to Rudy to reenact.  He even has some of the same gestures.  But it’s only the first episode and I’m sure as we truck along, Rudy will find his own niche. But for now, he’s what we all didn’t want him to be: a replacement for Nathan.  And speaking of sexy, turns out Alisha’s slutty past comes back and indirectly almost gets her lynched.  Thank the Lord that madness has two.

**Shakes As Weird Vibes Resonate From Her Head**

The villain in this episode is a blonde chick with weird slant bangs who can stop time.  Now that’s my superpower of choice.  But Blondie turns out to be a little psycho with her power causing personal injury to Rudy (and later to Alisha).  Whether Rudy deserves it or not, you shouldn’t have him suddenly realizing that he’s holding onto a knife that has been jabbed into his girlfriend’s abdomen.  It’s just bad karma.  And compared to past baddies (Morally Abandoned Jesus and Psycho Killing CheeseMan), she was little dull and predictable. But it wouldn’t be Misfits if they weren’t burying a dead body or two.

Overall, the episode wasn’t too terribly exciting or mind shattering like seasons past, but it does lay some good ground work for what’s to come.
