It’s not quite an official crossover of The Hills and The O.C., but Mischa Barton is officially joining the cast for The Hills: New Beginnings.

When MTV announced they would be bringing back their iconic reality show, The Hills, questions immediately started swirling about which of the original cast members would be returning for the show. The show’s return came with the promise that New Beginnings would feature some of our friends from The Hills along with some new faces, though they weren’t ready to reveal who those new cast members would be.

On Wednesday, MTV announced that actress Mischa Barton would be joining the new cast of The Hills: New Beginnings. While it might seem like a surprising choice for the actor, according to The Hollywood Reporter, including Barton in the cast just made sense, especially given her history on The O.C.

Barton explained on her Instagram, “When MTV approached me with the chance to be a part of the reality show that was inspired by The OC, it felt like the perfect opportunity for an irresistibly inviting new chapter.” She posted an adorable video confirming her presence on the show, and it has got us pretty excited for the drama that awaits us this season.

Adding Mischa Barton to the cast is an exciting change for the show, especially given the original protagonists, first Lauren Conrad and then Kristen Cavallari are not returning for The Hills: New Beginnings, so there is definitely room for new faces. However, Barton will be joined on the show by some of our old friends from The Hills like Whitney Port, Audrina Patridge, Brody Jenner, Heidi Pratt, Spencer Pratt, and Justin Bobby Brescia — just to name a few.

According to THR, The Hills: New Beginnings will start filming this month, and we can expect the new series to premiere on MTV in 2019.
