With Harrison Ford returning for Star Wars: Episode VII, it’s no surprise that they’re rebuilding the Millennium Falcon.
A large number of photos from the set of Star Wars: Episode VII have begun to leak out, and that’s a bit of a surprise given the secrecy that has surrounded the film. Director J.J. Abrams is notorious for keeping his projects secret (he’s known for his “mystery box”), and with a big project like Star Wars, he wouldn’t want to start veering the other way now.
Because it’s what they do, TMZ has been finding ways to get images from the set. Yesterday they dropped some images from Abu Dhabi where they’re filming desert scenes that are presumably going to be a return to Tatooine. This set was expansive, featuring 45 images that included a big practical (not CGI) creature, some extras in costume, some landscape shots, and some shots of pieces of some ships. Today, TMZ debuted a few really exciting images. They uncovered the production of the Millennium Falcon, Han Solo’s ship from the original trilogy. At the link you can see the Millennium Falcon in various stages of production, as well as the production of some X-Wings. These ships were very important in Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, so it’ll be exciting to see them in Episode VII.
Yesterday, two more people were added to the Episode VII cast. Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o and Game of Thrones actress Gwendoline Christie joined the cast that includes returning actors Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker as well as new actors John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow.
