Miley Cyrus has spent the better part of this year recording a new album, and new music from the former Hannah Montana star is coming sooner than later.

As Cyrus revealed to Billboard backstage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival over the weekend, she has a new single ready for release before the end of the year with the album (produced by Pharrell Williams and Da Internz) out in early 2013.

“I’ve been in so many sessions and just kind of bunkering down and working really hard and perfecting everything,” Cyrus told Billboard. “I’ve never really had time to do that, to kind of have my record kind of ‘done’ and then sit there and make it until it’s perfect. So, it’s been really, really fun. This whole year that’s all I’ve really dedicated life to.”

Earlier this month, Cyrus teased fans on twitter about a new single.

“How do y’all feel about me confirming a single for this year!!!!” she tweeted Sept. 6.

The new album will be Cyrus’ fourth studio album (not including five Hannah Montana soundtracks, two EPs and a live album) and her first since 2010’s Can’t Be Tamed. Her biggest hits include “Party in the USA,” “Can’t Be Tamed” and “See You Again.”

But fans don’t have to wait to watch Cyrus perform. The newly engaged singer covered “Lilac Wine” – a song written by James Shelton in 1950 but made famous by Elkie Brooks in 1978 – during “Backyard Sessions” with her band.

She will also guest star in two episodes of Two And A Half Men this season, as a family friend of Walden’s who gets involved with Jake.
