Miles Teller doesn’t appear to be a fan of the Divergent film, according to comments he made recently.

This morning The Hollywood Reporter published an interview which quotes Teller as having a negative opinion about the book-to-film adaptation he starred in earlier this year.

The comments came out when Teller spoke about finding his upcoming film Whiplash. He said when he heard about the project he was feeling “dead inside” due to Divergent.

“I didn’t have an interesting part [in Divergent], and I’d taken the film for business reasons: It was the first movie I’d done that was going to have an international audience. I called my agent and said, ‘This sucks.'”

After the interview was published, his rep told THR, “Accustomed to being more involved in the process of filmmaking, Miles regrets those words. He does value his relationship with Lionsgate and his participation in the franchise.”

Then Teller tweeted:

Teller’s tweet and his rep’s comments appear to contradict each other.

I’ve interviewed Teller a couple of times for Divergent (once on the film’s set in Chicago and once at San Diego Comic-Con) and can tell you that he is the most smug celebrity I’ve ever spoken to. Both times he came off, in my opinion, like he was uninterested in speaking about the film and above any conversation about it.

His smug attitude can come off as dry humor, so maybe that’s what happened with this new interview.

Teller will also co-star in the Divergent sequel Insurgent which hits theaters this March.
