Humanity is under a deadly alien threat, and Michael Peña and Lizzy Caplan must fight for their lives in the new trailer for Extinction.

Netflix just released a new trailer for its latest science fiction feature-length film, Extinction, and this alien thriller looks like it will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Starring Michael Peña, Lizzy Caplan, and Mike Colter, Extinction tells the story of a husband and father who has recurring nightmares of his family brutally losing his family. He soon comes to realize that these dreams are not just the symptoms of deep fears or anxieties, but visions into the future when the earth is invaded by a deadly force bent on destroying humanity. When Peña’s character discovers an unknown strength within himself, he is able to help keep his family from harm.

As Variety reports, Extinction was originally set to release in theaters with Universal, but when the film was removed from Universal’s release schedule, Netflix snapped it up. This isn’t the first time Netflix has done this (the streamer most famously rescued The Cloverfield Paradox from oblivion), and we love that Netflix has become a source to not only rescue creative-yet-doomed television shows and movies alike.

With such a talented cast and a unique storyline, we’re glad this movie wasn’t lost in a sea of other releases that went straight to Blu-ray, and we can’t wait to see Michael Peña kick some alien ass in this more dramatic role.

Luckily, you don’t have to wait too long to experience it for yourself. Extinction‘s Netflix premiere is right around the corner, landing on the streaming service on July 27.
