Michael Jackson is the latest musician to get the biopic treatment, with the producer of Bohemian Rhapsody spearheading the film.

It seems Graham King, producer of Bohemian Rhapsody, has developed a taste for the musical biopic. No small wonder, as Bohemian Rhapsody earned over $900 million at the worldwide box office and earned Rami Malek an Oscar for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury.

Deadline broke the news that producer Graham King, known most notably for producing Bohemian Rhapsody, has secured the rights from the Michael Jackson estate to make a film on the controversial pop star’s life.

According to sources close to Deadline, the rights include access to all of Michael Jackson’s music. Though the biopic has yet to find a studio home, it has already found a screenwriter in Oscar-nominated writer John Logan, who was nominated twice for Best Original Screenplay for Gladiator in 2000, The Aviator in 2004, and once for Best Adapted Screenplay for Hugo in 2011.

According to reports, the Michael Jackson biopic does not intend to present a sanitized portrait of the pop star’s life, but will rather provide an in-depth look at the star’s life — from his childhood beginnings to the height of his pop star fame and on through to his death in 2009 at age 50.

Their take on this film seems as though it will be similar to The Aviator, which showed the genius of Howard Hughes as well as his mental illness and germaphobia. Producer Graham King and writer John Logan likewise worked on it together.

However, what exactly that unsanitized version of Michael Jackson’s life may look like on-screen is still unsure. While the film has been confirmed with multiple sources, Variety states that spokespersons for the film “would not comment on whether Logan’s script would include Jackson’s accusers.”

Editor’s Note: For decades, Michael Jackson has been accused of abusing children, as documented in the recent HBO film Finding Neverland.
