The upcoming Disney+ series Love, Simon has officially found its lead actor. Michael Cimino is slated to play Victor.

Disney+ is bringing us Love, Simon, a series based on the 2018 movie, and the show has officially announced who will be leading the series. The show will follow the character Victor, who is going to be played by Michael Cimino.

As Variety reports, Cimino’s character is a new student at Creekwood High School. As many high schoolers are, he’s on a journey of self-discovery as he adjusts to a new city, faces challenges at home, and as he’s working to sort out confusion over his sexual orientation. When it becomes a bit too much for him, he reaches out to Simon, who helps him navigate the tumultuous waters of high school.

Heading up Love, Simon is one of Cimino’s first big roles, but certainly not his first. Previously, Cimino has been featured in Annabelle Comes Home and the short-lived Training Day series.

Anna Ortiz has already been cast as Victor’s mother, Isabel, and James Martinez will play Victor’s father, Armando. Additionally, the series will be narrated by Nick Robinson, who starred in the movie Love, Simon.

The Love, Simon series is set to begin production later this month in Los Angeles. For those worried that the series won’t have the same magic as the Greg Berlanti-directed movie (who will not be involved in the series due to his extensive television deal with Warner Bros.), the writers of the movie, Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, will be executive producing the series.

Agnes Chu, senior vice president of content for Disney+ was very excited to add this important story to the Disney+ lineup, saying, “Love, Simon is a powerful story embraced by critics and audiences alike for its universal messages of authenticity, love, and acceptance. We are honored to partner with the talented team at 20th Century Fox Television to bring this new chapter of a beloved story to Disney+, continuing the personal and uplifting narrative that captivated fans of the original film.”

We can’t wait to check out Love, Simon when it hits Disney+, and we’re so excited to see Disney slowly begin to add more LGBTQIA+ representation to their films and television series.
