Transformers director Michael Bay attended today’s Samsung keynote at the Consumer Electronics Show, but a glitch left him so frustrated he walked off stage.

The mishap took place Monday afternoon in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bay was invited on stage by Joe Stinziano, VP of Samsung Electronics America, to talk about what new Samsung televisions mean for the future of film-making.

After starting to respond to Stinziano, Bay’s teleprompter began malfunctioning and left him seemingly unable to continue. Stinziano tried to help Bay through it with questions. The director tried to wing it, but he was allegedly so fed up with his script being unavailable that he decided to walk off stage in front of a live audience.

Watch the video below courtesy of The Verge to see for yourself:

Stinziano was left to pick up the pieces and told the audience, “Welcome to Vegas.”

What’s interesting is that Bay was so shook up by having to go off script that he couldn’t speak from his heart about connecting to the audience.

Since this happened moments ago, it remains to be seen if Bay will issue an apology. We’ll update you if he does. For now, there’s a fun video to play over and over.

Update: Michael Bay has now released his take on what happened during CES:

“Wow! I just embarrassed myself at CES – I was about to speak for Samsung for this awesome Curved 105-inch UHD TV. I rarely lend my name to any products, but this one is just stellar. I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP’s intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. Then the prompter went up and down – then I walked off. I guess live shows aren’t my thing.”

His statement seems to confirm that it truly was a technical problem with the teleprompter and he wasn’t able to continue. He does seem excited about Samsung’s new curved display.

Bay is a producer on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Purge 2, and Ouija.
