The Merlin actors Katie McGrath, Bradley James, Colin Morgan and Angel Coulby sit down to talk about their favourite series 5 episodes, character moments and more.

In the video interview with the SyFy channel, the cast members are asked which episode is their favourite. Coulby says episode 8 (“The Dark Tower,” in which Gwen and Morgana are reunited, although under terrible circumstances) while McGrath names the final two episodes (“The Diamond of the Day”). In terms of which episode was the most fun to shoot, James says he enjoyed the last two the most – and well, we won’t know for a few more days why, will we?!

In terms of the funniest moment for their characters, McGrath and Coulby hand the question over to the boys, or the “comedy brutes” as Morgan calls them. James mentions the (by now infamous, we’re sure) poetry scene from “The Death Song of Uther Pendragon,” and they reflect on how the pair of them have grown as a comedic duo. “We’ve probably been on a similar journey to Arthur and Merlin,” James says.

They’re also asked what fans might be surprised to find out about each cast member – and apparently McGrath can read really fast, James loves milk (and asks fans to please stop sending him milk in the post, because, gross), Morgan plays the drums, sings and dances, and Coulby learned to play guitar while filming Merlin. Aren’t we all surprised?!

Finally, the actors reflect on what fans will take away from series 5 once all is said and done. “Hopefully some sort of satisfaction,” James says. “But I think they’ll be sad,” Coulby adds, and James very pointedly adds, “cause it’s ending.” “Yeah, another reason,” Coulby replies.

Nope, not cause they’re all dying or anything, not at all. Excuse us while we go cry in a corner.

Well, after we watch this second video with Katie McGrath, in which she talks about which spell she’d want Merlin to cast for her:

“I really want a white Christmas,” McGrath says. “I’d really like it to snow in Ireland for Christmas.”

Aww. What spell would you want Merlin to cast for you? Right about now, we wouldn’t say no to an alakazam-Merlin-isn’t-really-ending-and-no-one-dies-ever-or-maybe-they-do-but-they’re-reincarnated spell!

The first part of the Merlin series finale, “The Diamond of the Day,” airs Saturday at 19:55 GMT on BBC One.
