Merlin actor Colin Morgan gives fans an interesting insight on Merlin’s character development in the fourth episode of season 5, “Another’s Sorrow.”

In the short video clip, Morgan introduces the episode, which features the long-awaited return of fan favorite Princess Mithian, describing it as “a quest episode” with adventure and mystery mixed into it as well.

Morgan also reflects a bit on Merlin’s development as a character and where he is now at the beginning of season 5 as opposed to where we have seen him in seasons prior.

The actor said his favorite thing about the episode was that, “Merlin was pretty much on the ball from the beginning of it” as far as knowing that something wasn’t quite right.

“It highlights I think how much he’s grown up over the years,” said Morgan. “Previously, he may have trusted people, [now] he’s become less naive, he’s become less trusting, and he is more active in his pursuits.”

Finally, Morgan gave props to Katie McGrath, who in this episode goes undercover as an old handmaid that goes by the name of Helga, which involved quite a transformation behind the scenes.

Morgan, who has had to play an older version of Emrys a couple of times during the course of the series, knows all too well how long it takes to undergo make-up and prosthetics in order to transform into his older counterpart and said it’s not an easy feat!
