Merlin actress Angel Coulby has landed a role in the upcoming crime thriller The Tunnel, which follows the same format as the iconic Scandinavian series The Bridge.

Fans of Forbrydelsen (The Killing) and Borgen might also be familiar with one of the newest crime thrillers to come out of Scandinavia, the Danish/Swedish Broen (The Bridge).

Now, the series is getting an international makeover (much like The Killing did when it was remade in America). Sky Atlantic is developing The Tunnel, a ten-part series created by Spooks writer Ben Richards, and CultBox can now report that Merlin‘s Angel Coulby (Guinevere) has joined the cast.

You can also look forward to seeing Harry Potter star Clémence Poésy (Fleur Delacour) and Game of Thrones actors Stephen Dillane (Stannis Baratheon) and Joseph Mawle (Benjen Stark), as well as many more prominent British and French stars.

The official description for The Tunnel has also been released, and it reads:

When a prominent French politician is found dead on the border between the UK and France, detectives Karl Roebuck (Dillane) and Elise Wassermann (Poésy) are sent to investigate on behalf of their respective countries. However, the case takes a surreal turn when a shocking discovery is made at the crime scene, forcing the French and British police into an uneasy partnership.  As the serial killer uses ever more elaborate and ingenious methods to highlight the moral bankruptcy of modern society, Karl and Elise are drawn deeper into his increasingly personal agenda.

Have you seen the original The Bridge? Are you looking forward to this adaptation of the story?

Merlin fans will also be able to see Coulby soon, when she appears in the first episode of the period drama Dancing on the Edge, which airs February 4 on BBC Two.
