Merlin co-creators Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy were both in attendance at yesterday’s press screening for the show’s upcoming fifth season and had some very interesting things to say about the future of the show to those in attendance!

According to DigitalSpy, while speaking to members of the press, the showrunners talked about the end of the series as a whole.

Johnny Capps talked about how in a way, Merlin has “always been about the end,” and revealed that both he and Murphy have known how the series would come to a close for quite some time.

Additionally, Julian Murphy added:

“There’s something about this legend that works because it failed — they did create this Camelot…and it failed. You can’t really run away from that, but [it remains to be seen] how we get there and how long it takes.”

The end of Murphy’s quote in particular should be of comfort to fans who have been worried that there might be some truth to the recent rumors swirling around that season 5 could very well be the end of the series.

Given Murphy’s quote at the press conference though, it sounds like the end of Merlin may not be quite as near as some might believe it to be!

Season 5 of Merlin returns to television sometime this fall.
