Over the summer at this year’s Comic-Con, Merlin co-creator Johnny Capps revealed that Anthony Head would be returning as Uther Pendragon in the show’s fifth season.

Now, Capps has revealed new details which will give fans a better idea of how they can expect to see Head reprise his role as the late king of Camelot. This post contains spoilers.

In a recent interview with SciFiNow, Capps revealed that they had originally planned to bring Head back at the end of last season. In the end however, they decided bringing Uther’s character back in season 5 would be much more fitting to the show’s story arc.

As to when fans can expect to see Uther return, Capps had this to say:

“[Uther returns] at a point in Arthur’s life where he is absolutely missing his father, and at a moment where he is having a bit of a wobble as king and needs some advice.”

The showrunner is keeping tight-lipped on exactly how Uther manages to return; however, he also revealed that Merlin and Uther will share an amazing emotional scene together.

“They have a good conversation, a conversation that they should have had a long time ago about Arthur,” said Capps.
