Learn the name of the final episode of Merlin, which has been split into two parts and will be airing on December 22 and 24.

Despite previous speculation, we’re not getting an extra hour of Merlin – rather the final episode of the series is a two-parter (5×12 and 5×13), and will air on December 22 and Christmas Eve respectively.

Radio Times has finally confirmed the rumour that has been floating around the internet for about a week: that the finale will be entitled “The Diamond of the Day.”

Now, Merlin fans, help us out. What does this title mean?! We know of the Crystal Cave of course, but what kind of significance does a diamond have in Arthurian Legend?

Meanwhile, the promotional images for the penultimate episode, 5×11 “The Drawing of the Dark,” have been added to the Merlin Wikia. They reveal Mordred and a young woman named Kara, who will likely be involved in his turn to the dark side:

Judging from the pictures, this very much looks like a Merlin/Freya situation. Of course then, Freya turned into a beast which Arthur killed, but despite losing the woman he loved, Merlin didn’t end up hating Arthur because of it. But maybe something similar will happen, and Mordred won’t be quite as forgiving? Could this girl be a sorceress?

Before this episode however comes 5×10 “The Kindness of Strangers,” which airs this Saturday at 19:55 on BBC One!
