The Merlin crew headed over to Comic Con last weekend for a panel, and thanks to Digital Spy’s live blog of the event, we now have a recap to share with you!

The panel featured executive producers Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy, as well as stars Colin Morgan (Merlin), Bradley James (Arthur), Katie McGrath (Morgana), Anthony Stewart Head (Uther) and surprise guest Santiago Cabrera (Lancelot).

The biggest announcement to come out of the panel was that, as previously reported, the BBC has commissioned a fifth season of Merlin. This is good news for the writers, as Johnny Capps explains, because now they can build “slow-burning” story arcs.

Another big announcement was that actor Nathaniel Parker will join the show, as Arthur’s uncle Agravaine.

They also tease season 4: it will be a more “mature” series, with lots of surprises, and “epic, vast, magical landscapes.” Morgana’s magic will be as strong as Merlin’s, and Colin Morgan teases that Merlin will find his “true place” in the Camelot court this year. Furthermore, there will be a “battle for power” between Uther and Arthur.

The knights will also play a big role this year, Santiago Cabrera reveals. And the Arthur/Gwen/Lancelot triangle will flair up, with some flirting between Gwen and Lancelot, and an “unexpected twist.” And in other Lancelot news: he’ll meet the dragon.

During the fan questions, the panelists are asked when Arthur will finally learn of Merlin’s magic. But it doesn’t look like that’s any time in the immediate future: Colin Morgan explains that, “To reveal it to someone who, at this stage, cannot possibly comprehend who he is and what he stands for, would ruin everything.” Also, there will be a new reason why Merlin needs to hide his magical powers.
