A&E has released a stunning first-look trailer for Damien, the Omen movie series follow-up starring Bradley James.

Based on the 1970s horror film series The Omen, A&E’s Damien hopes to reboot the franchise for a new audience.

Damien stars Bradley James (Merlin, iZombie) as title character Damien Thorn, a.k.a. the Antichrist. The child of Satan, Damien has been raised by a human unaware of his son’s true origin.

Damien grows up a normal human boy, but as his true nature awakens, he puts the lives of everyone around him in danger.

The 20-second trailer is eerie, terrifying, and pretty damn intriguing:

We see main star Bradley James (or at least, er, his cheekbones), the hell hound prophesied to arrive on his doorstep, and some Exorcist-style supercuts sure to give us nightmares.

Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth) directed the pilot, which was written by Glen Mazzara (who also serves as executive producer).

Originally, Lifetime had ordered six episodes of Damien. Last month, however, it was announced that the show would shift to Lifetime’s sister channel A&E, and that four additional episodes had been ordered.

The official synopsis for the drama reads:

Damien follows the adult life of Damien Thorn, the mysterious child from the 1976 motion picture who has grown up seemingly unaware of the satanic forces around him. Haunted by his past, Damien must now come to terms with his true destiny — that he is the Antichrist.

“Barbara Hershey (Once Upon a Time) stars as Ann Rutledge, the world’s most powerful woman, who has been tasked with making sure Damien fulfills his destiny. Omid Abtahi (Better Call Saul) portrays Amani Golkar, a close colleague of Damien’s whose fierce loyalty will be tested when he realizes who his brother-in-arms actually is.

“Meganlyn Echikunwoke (House of Lies) plays Simone Baptiste, a woman whose life is thrown into turmoil when tragedy unexpectedly strikes.

‘Damien’ is set to debut later this year.
