In a new video, Merlin actor Alexander Vlahos shares his hope that fans will enjoy the finale, and explains why it becomes a platonic love story between the lead characters.

In the video, Vlahos says that the ending is, “Epic, it’s huge,” mentioning the “amazing, brilliantly done” fight scenes.

He also says that the story, “becomes a love story between two men. In a platonic sense, it becomes a brilliant love story between Arthur and Merlin. And it’s told in a right possible way, and I think fans should be happy.”

But bromance aside, “there’s a lot of death,” Vlahos warns. “Not everyone’s story ends happily, let’s just say that. Hopefully it won’t ruin people’s Christmases.” Er… yeah, let’s hope!

Vlahos is happy with how Mordred’s story ends, and says that the producers have given the story, “the proper send-off. Not necessarily with fanfares and trumpets, but hopefully people will be happy.”

Well. They may all die, but at least we can expect some scenes between Merlin and Arthur that will tie up their story and fully cement their friendship, right? Which is good?

…Nope. We’re still just as scared.

The first half of Merlin‘s two-part series finale “The Diamond of the Day” airs tomorrow night at 19:55 GMT on BBC One.
