Colin Morgan’s not the only Merlin actor with a new television gig lined up! Actress Angel Coulby is set to make her first television debut post-Merlin this coming week in BBC’s new period drama, Dancing On The Edge.

Coulby will play 1930s jazz singer Jessie Taylor in the new series, which follows a black jazz band that becomes mixed up in the turmoil of aristocratic London while seeking fame and fortune.

Fans who just can’t wait to see Coulby in the new series can now enjoy a clip of Angel singing as Jessie Taylor along with a short interview in which the actress talks briefly about taking on the role.

In the interview, Coulby says she was quite pleased to learn she had landed the role, adding that it was great to get a part so soon after the end of Merlin in something that is so very different from the role she plays as Queen Guinevere in BBC’s hit fantasy series.

“In a way, it’s sort of a dream job because I have always enjoyed singing although haven’t done a lot of it.” said Coulby.

Though it’s clear from the clip below that the actress can carry a tune, director Stephen Poliakoff revealed that few had heard Coulby sing before she auditioned.

When asked why she’d been keeping her singing chops a secret, Coulby revealed that she had done a bit of singing at school and though she enjoyed it, never went around advertising the fact after she got to drama school.

“Everyone can sing at drama school so you don’t feel like you’ve got anything particularly special.” said Coulby. “You don’t go raving about the fact that you can sing.”

Check out the video below for Coulby’s full interview with BBC Breakfast along with her co-star Wunmi Mosaku, and director Stephen Poliakoff.

Dancing On The Edge premieres in the U.K. on Feb. 4 at 9 p.m. on BBC2.
