Merlin‘s Colin Morgan will not only be appearing on Quirke but has also booked a return to the stage, as one of the leads in Shakespeare’s The Tempest.

The Shakespeare Globe Theater in London has announced its 2013 season, and Colin Morgan fans will be happy to learn that the young actor will be appearing in The Tempest, which opens April 23.

We don’t expect you all to be theater buffs, so here’s the brief summary as offered by the Globe’s website:

Prospero, Duke of Milan, usurped and exiled by his own brother, holds sway over an enchanted island. He is comforted by his daughter Miranda and served by his spirit Ariel and his deformed slave Caliban. When Prospero raises a storm to wreck this perfidious brother and his confederates on the island, his long contemplated revenge at last seems within reach.

Morgan will be playing the role of Ariel, the spirit who rescues Prospero after he shipwrecks on the island. Ariel is enslaved to the witch Sycorax, and by helping Prospero he hopes to be granted his freedom.

Roger Allam will be playing the role of Prospero, with Jessie Buckley as Miranda. While priority booking for Globe patrons will be possible from February 8, the public will be able to book tickets from February 11. You can read more about the play and learn when cast Q&As and special events will be taking place on the Globe website.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Morgan has performed this particular Shakespeare play. Earlier in his career he played the role of Ferdinand when performing with the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

Later this year you will also be able to see Morgan appear in the third episode of the new BBC drama series Quirke, which is currently filming in Ireland.
