The creator of the Jessica Jones TV show, Melissa Rosenberg, is leaving the series after the conclusion of the third season.

Netflix’s show Jessica Jones has been a huge hit for the streaming service, and a great deal of the show’s success is thanks to the creator, Melissa Rosenberg. Unfortunately, it has just been announced that Rosenberg plans to depart the show after season 3.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Rosenberg has signed an 8 figure deal with Warner Bros. Television to help create and develop new projects. Reports say that Netflix worked hard to get Rosenberg to stay, but ultimately she was ready to move on to new projects and challenges.

An official return date hasn’t been set yet for Jessica Jones season 3, and Rosenberg has assured fans that her full attention is being given to the show until the third season is complete. She also expressed, in a quote to Hollywood Reporter, a great deal of love for the show, the cast, crew, and fans, while still feeling excited about embarking on new challenges with Warner Bros. Television.

“All of my attention remains with the extraordinary cast, writers and production team of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, until the completion of season three. It continues to be a career highlight working with my partners at Marvel Television and Netflix. We’re extraordinarily grateful to the viewers who have supported us every step of the way on Jessica’s journey, which is so beautifully realized by Krysten Ritter and the amazing cast including Rachael Taylor, Eka Darville and Carrie-Anne Moss. We have so many talented storytellers in every area of this show, who I’m honored to call friends and collaborators. As I look ahead after this season, I’m thrilled that I will be able to explore new projects with the talented team at Warner Bros. Television and push myself in new challenging creative directions.”

It’s very sad to see such a talented individual leave a show we love as much as Jessica Jones, but we know that Melissa Rosenberg will leave the show in a great place. And happily, all traces of Rosenberg won’t be erased after she leaves. If Netflix renews the show for a fourth season, Rosenberg will continue to be credited as the show’s creator and executive producer.

We wish Rosenberg luck in her next endeavors, and we can’t wait to see what new stories she tells with Warner Bros. Television.
