Just as Bob Saget narrated How I Met Your Mother as future Ted, another ’90s culture icon will be narrating How I Met Your Dad.

It was just announced that movie star Meg Ryan will soon be the voice of older Sally in the How I Met Your Mother spinoff. Present-day Sally, as previously announced, will be played by Greta Gerwig.

While the show has not even officially been picked up by CBS yet, news about the How I Met Your Dad series premiere continues to come trickling out from production. Among casting changes, we do know the show is being shot in New York City, and according to Carter Bays’ twitter, “Greta Gerwig is about as delightful as it gets.”

Beyond a few mysteriously vague tweets, both HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, as well as the third HIMYD co-creator, Emily Spivey, have keep information about the show’s development under wraps.

It’s interesting to note that while How I Met Your Mother cast relatively unknown actors – most notably Josh Radnor and Cobie Smulders – How I Met Your Dad appears to be pulling talent from Hollywood, casting a few notable actors. Greta Gerwig has become an independent movie star, most recently seen in Francis Ha, which she co-wrote. She will also be part of the writing team for HIMYD.

Despite never been actually seen on the screen, this will be Meg Ryan’s first network television series. She recently had a recurring role on the television show Web Therapy, staring Lisa Kudrow. Meg Ryan rose to fame in the late ’80s and early ’90s by starring in movies such as Nora Ephron’s When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail.
