Mean Girls: The Musical is heading to the big screen and the adaptation has just found its directors.

According to Variety, directors Arturo Perez Jr., and Samantha Jayne have officially signed on to direct Paramount’s upcoming adaptation of Mean Girls: The Musical.

The forthcoming adaptation is based on the hit Broadway musical of the same name, which, in turn, was based on Tina Fey’s iconic 2004 teen romcom.

As with the movie, Mean Girls: The Musical centers on Cady Heron— a teen who grew up in the African savanna, who now has to figure out how to navigate the vicious world of public high school in suburban Illinois.

All your faves are present, from the Plastics to besties Damien and Janice— along with some seriously catchy musical numbers written by Jeff Richmond (30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) and Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde).

Others involved behind the camera on the adaptation include Saturday Night Live boss Lorne Michaels, who is on board to produce along with Tina Fey.

In addition, Fey is also set to pen the script for the adaptation.

Still unknown is who will star in the movie musical, but we’re sure fans of both the original film, as well as the play, will be looking forward to finding out more about casting as the project moves further and further into production.
