Fox is starting work on The Maze Runner movie sequel The Scorch Trials, a report reveals today.

The film’s script is now being developed by T.S. Nowlin who wrote the first Maze Runner movie and is also at work on the Fantastic Four reboot.

The Maze Runner director Wes Ball is overseeing Nowlin’s script, so presumably he is interested in returning to helm the sequel.

Because the sequel is already in development so far ahead of the release of the original, Fox must be feeling confident in the potential success of movie number one.

The news will be a reassuring sign for fans who were disappointed this past weekend when Fox decided to delay the release of Maze Runner from February 2014 to September 2014. One reason the decision to delay may’ve been made? There hasn’t been much in the way of promotion for the Dylan O’Brien-led movie even though it was quickly approaching its February unveiling. So far we’ve only received a few stills and no Maze Runner trailer.

In The Scorch Trials, the group who found themselves in The Glades are now out but discovering that earth is in disarray.

The four-part book series is authored by James Dashner.

Thanks to Deadline for the tip.
