The Maze Runner will be released on Blu-ray and DVD December 16, with two hours of bonus features and an exclusive comic book.

Although speculation had been circulating for the past week, it wasn’t until today that Wes Ball formally announced the release date of The Maze Runner on Blu-ray and DVD.

We have also learned that the Blu-ray disc pack will contain a whole host of additional features and exclusive content.

The Maze Runner 2-Disc Combo Pack includes:
● 24-Page Prequel Comic Book which dives into the backstory of the world of the Gladers before Thomas’ arrival. Written by director Wes Ball and co-screenwriter T.S. Nowlin.
● Deleted Scenes with Commentary from Wes Ball
● Navigating The Maze: The Making of The Maze Runner (A Five Part Documentary that includes: The Maze is Born, Creating the World, Finding the Gang, The Movie Inside the Maze, and The Digital Details)
● The “Chuck Diaries”

It is important to note that the above mentioned comic book feature is not to be confused with, as previously speculated, the 2014 SDCC comic shared with fans. The prequel comic was created by BOOM! Comics especially for the Blu-ray release.

Fans will be able to purchase the film just in time for the holiday season! A smart strategic move on Fox’s part.

The Maze Runner has certainly proven that it is a viable franchise worth investing in. Just this weekend the film debuted in China and delivered a substantial profit from the overseas audience. Bringing total worldwide sales to $306.5 million.

Not bad for an initial $34 million investment.

Which leads us to the highly anticipated sequel The Scorch Trials, undergoing filming now.
