Young Adult author James Dashner, best known for writing the Maze Runner series, has come under fire for sexual misconduct allegations.

Update (February 15): Dashner has responded to the allegations. In a post made on Twitter, the author says he has reflected on the accusations and admits that he’s been a “part of the problem.” He’ll be seeking counseling and guidance to “address” the issues.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the allegations against James Dashner have prompted the author to be dropped by his literary agent, Michael W. Bourget.

In a statement made to the Associated Press on Wednesday, Bourret said that he was no longer able to represent Dashner given the serious allegations brought forth against his former client.

“I couldn’t in good conscience continue working with James, and I let him go yesterday,” Bourret told AP.

Allegations against the author first surfaced via the comments section of the School Library Journal website under an article titled “Children’s Publishing Reckons with Sexual Harassment in Its Ranks.”

Though the article was originally published on January 3, comments accusing popular authors such as Dashner of sexual misconduct didn’t start surfacing until February.

Dashner isn’t the only young adult author who must now face ramifications for his poor decisions.

In the same post, sexual misconduct allegations were also brought forth against author Jay Asher, whose book 13 Reasons Why was adapted into a popular Netflix series just last year.

In response, the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators announced on Monday that they have officially removed Asher from the organization following the allegations brought forth against him.

In addition, Netflix also released a statement via EW saying that Asher, who was heavily involved with 13 Reasons Why season 1, is not involved with the second season of the series.
