The author of the children’s classic Where The Wild Things Are has died at the age of 83.

Maurice Sendak was famous for the story which was turned into a film in 2009. The original story was published in 1963.

On top of writing over twenty books, Sendak was also an illustrator for many, many more.

He died due to complications from a stroke.

Scholastic President and CEO Richard Robinson commented on Sendak’s passing: “Maurice Sendak captured childhood in brilliant stories and drawings which will live forever.”
